# Connect Claude Code

> One command adds Montage to Claude Code; then Claude Code can import files from your project, edit your videos and export them.

## Connect, step by step

1. In your terminal, run:

   ```
   claude mcp add --transport http montage https://app.getmontage.ai/mcp
   ```
1. Open Claude Code and type `/mcp`, pick **montage** and sign in.
1. In the browser, sign in to Montage if asked, then press **Allow**.
1. Ask Claude Code: « List my Montage videos ».

> The workspace must be on Pro, Max or Ultra.

## Sending files from your computer

Claude Code runs on your computer, so it can send a file from there:

1. `start_upload` gives an upload address (valid 4 hours) and the `curl` command that sends the file, up to 5 GB.
1. Claude Code runs that command, then `finish_upload`.
1. `get_media` until the file is ready, then `add_media_to_video`.

With the Montage app for Mac open and signed in, `import_on_computer` is better: the app makes the file with your computer's video chip and your original never goes up.

## Add the skill

Put the Montage skill in your `.claude/skills` folder so Claude Code knows how Montage works before it starts. [The Montage skill](/docs/agents/skill)

## Questions

### Can Claude Code export to a file on my disk?

Yes, two ways: `export_video` made on Montage gives a download address valid 4 hours; made on « computer », your Montage app saves the file in your Movies folder and `get_export` says where.

### Which file types can it send?

Videos, sounds and pictures: mp4, mov, m4v, webm, mkv, mxf, mp3, m4a, wav, jpg, png, heic and others.
