# What the app does better

> Montage for Mac is the same Montage, with your computer's own files and video chip: nothing to upload, and exports made from your originals, in every format.

## What changes with the app

| | On the web | Mac app |
|---|---|---|
| Adding footage | Your original goes up to Montage, then Montage makes the small file to watch while you edit. | Your original stays where it is. Your computer makes the small file to watch, with its video chip. |
| Files it reads | Videos, sounds and pictures your browser sends. | Any format your computer can read: ProRes, HDR, footage from a camera card or a drone. |
| Export | MP4 (H.264), normal colours. | MP4 or MOV: H.264, H.265, H.265 10-bit or ProRes. HDR when your footage was filmed in HDR. Your own presets. |
| Who makes the file | Your browser or Montage | Your computer, from your originals |

## Your videos still reach your account

While you work, the app sends the small file to watch to your account, behind, so your videos can be shared and watched on your phone. Your originals never go up.

- **Saving to your account** shows how many videos and how far it is.
- **Waiting for the internet**: it goes on by itself once you are back online.
- **Saved to your account**: your videos can be shared and watched on your phone.

If you quit while videos are still being saved, Montage asks first. **Quit** loses nothing: saving goes on the next time you open the app.

## Questions

### Does the app upload my originals?

No. Your originals stay on your computer or your disk. Only the small file to watch, its pictures and its sound go to your account, so you can share the video.

### Can I use Montage in the app without the internet?

No. The app opens Montage's own pages, so it needs the internet to open; without it, it shows « Montage needs the internet to open. » and **Try again**.

### I added a video on the web. Can I export it from the app?

Yes. The app gets that video's original from your account first (« Getting it · 34% »), then exports from it.

### Is the app on Linux or on Intel Macs?

Not for now: the app is for Macs with Apple silicon. Montage for Windows is coming soon.
