# Zoom and reframe

> Ask for the shape your video needs and where to look, and Montage frames each shot: vertical, square or horizontal, zooms on the words that matter.

## Pick the shape

On **New video**, the shape chip in the box gives **Vertical 9:16**, **Square** and **Horizontal 16:9**. On a phone, **Montage chooses** comes first: it takes the shape of your first footage. You can also say it: « make this talk vertical for Reels ».

Montage keeps your footage's own sharpness: 4K iPhone footage makes a 4K video unless you ask for another size.

## An upright shot in a wide video

| Montage can | What you see |
|---|---|
| Fill the width | Zoomed in, cut at the top and bottom |
| Show it whole in the middle | Black on the sides, or a blurred copy of it behind |

When your ask could mean either, Montage asks which. It never turns a shot on its side to fill the frame: what is up in your footage stays up.

## Zooms and moves

1. Ask: « Zoom in on the words that matter », or name the moment: « @0:24 punch in on my face ».
1. Say how: how close, how fast, centred on what.
1. Fix the frame by asking: « a bit more to the left », or leave a comment on the spot of the picture.

## Questions

### Can I change the shape after the first version?

Yes. Ask « make it square »; the earlier shape stays in the History.

### My footage is sideways. Can Montage turn it?

Phone footage arrives upright on its own when you add it. If a shot is still off, say which, and Montage turns it.
