Silences and retakes
Montage finds the pauses, the lines you said again and the starts you dropped, and keeps only your best take of each line.
What Montage finds
| In your footage | What Montage does |
|---|---|
| A line said again later | Keeps the last one, drops the earlier try |
| A line cut off or left unfinished | Marks it, and leaves it out |
| A start dropped: one or two words, then a pause of a second or more | Leaves it out |
| A pause longer than 0.4 seconds between two kept lines | Cuts it |
It leaves a few hundredths of a second before and after each part, so the first and last words are not clipped.
Ask for it
- Say it when you describe your video on New video, or later in Ask: « Cut the silences and the retakes ».
- Watch it. If a cut is too tight, comment on its moment: « @0:17 too fast here ».
- Or ask for one take back: « Keep the first try of the intro ».
Your footage is never cut. Montage only chooses which parts play. Every word stays in your original, ready to come back.
Questions
Does it work on music?
It works on anything with words: a footage, or a sound where someone speaks.
Can I keep some pauses?
Yes. Say where: « Keep the pause after the joke at 0:42 ».
