Montage is in public beta.

Today we are opening Montage to everyone. It is in public beta: the whole app, on every plan, free to start with 10 credits and no card.

Montage is a video editor for the AI era. Most of the time spent on a video is not spent on creative choices. It is spent watching hours of footage, cutting the pauses and the retakes, finding the right shot, placing the captions one line at a time. Montage does that part. You bring what you filmed, you say what the video is for, and it makes the edit.

An edit, not a description of one.

There are many tools that will talk to you about your video. Montage edits it. Every answer is a change to your video, made the way an editor would make it. You watch it, leave a comment on any moment, or ask for the next change. Montage sees what you changed and keeps going from there.

When a request can mean two things, it asks. « Make it shorter » becomes « under 60 seconds for Reels, or just tighter? »

How it works.

You upload your takes as they come off the camera, as big as they are. No sorting, no renaming. Montage reads every word that is said and looks at every shot, so you can name a moment by what happens in it: « the part where I talk about Northwood ».

Then you say what you want, in your own words: « Cut this talk to five minutes for YouTube », « Add captions in my font », « Put my face cam in a macOS window ». The cut comes back ready to watch, and the export reads your original files, at full size.

What it does today.

Everything below was done for a real video in the showcase, and each one was asked for in a sentence:

  • Clean cuts. The silences, the ums and the retakes go; the best take of each line stays.
  • Captions in your fonts and colors, timed to your voice.
  • B-roll where it helps: the picture of what you are talking about, when you say it.
  • Color correction, with your LUT or a look you describe.
  • Components: a title card, a sponsor card, a window around your face cam. Asked for once, reused everywhere, every setting yours.
  • Sound design: a sound on every card, music under each part of the story.
  • Export the video ready to post, the sound alone, or the cut for Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, made on your own computer from your original files.

And if you already work in Claude, you can edit from there: connect Montage over MCP and the whole edit happens in Montage. The nine-minute film at the top of this post was made that way.

Made in Montage.

The showcase has four videos today: a long-form YouTube film, two talking-head shorts and an ad. Each one shows what went in, how Montage made it, and every thing it did, card by card. It is the best way to see what the tool can do before you try it.

What's next.

This is a beta. We ship every week, and what we build next depends on what you make with it. Tell us what you are working on, and what got in the way. We read everything.

See you in Montage.
